The Bird and The Beard #9 Get Carter ’71/Thief

Hello we are back after another temporary hiatus.  This is The Beard’s fault this time around.  We cover two films that were filmed in our home areas this time around.  First up, The Bird takes us to Newcastle and shakes the Michael Caine tree again when we cover Get Carter from 1971.  I hit the mean streets of Chicago with Jimmy Caan as an ace safecracker in Thief from 1981.

#8 Last Chance Harvey/(500) Days of Summer

Sorry for the lateness of this release. The Beard has been going through some stuff. But that's life! We are back with two flicks about two hopeless romantics! The Bird chose the Dustin Hoffman/Emma Thompson vehicle Last Chance Harvey and The Beard choo-choo-chooses (500) Days of Summer! This one get a little touchy-feely but a man can show emotions if he wants!

#7 Club Paradise/Guest House Paradiso

Sorry we have been away for a bit but we are back with two hotel themed comedies. First up, we talk about`sun, fun. chest pelts and sweet, sticky weed when we review the Robin Williams vehicle Club Paradise from 1984. The Bird's choice this time around is a slapsticky romp which features the late Rik Mayall. Rik and Ade run the crappiest hotel in all of the UK and manage to create tons of crazy situations and chaos in Guest House Paradiso from 1999! Sit back and enjoy the show and please don't eat the fish!

#6 Made in Dagenham/Norma Rae

Oh, feminism! We are back and this time around and the sisters are indeed doing it for themselves in this one! Your fearless duo tackle two titles about a women's struggle in the workplace. First up, those saucy gals at a UK Ford plant shake things up to get their fair share all while looking very 60s while doing it in Made in Dagenham. Then, we talk about on lady's mission to get her union on at a local textile plant with much opposition and a whole lotta racism in the Sally Field vehicle that won her the Academy Award in Norma Rae. Get organized and raise your picket signs. This could get messy

#4 The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie/Blackboard Jungle

The unlikely duo is going back to school, old-school that is. We are back with two films of that theme in this one as controversial as it is. The Bird's choice for this one is Maggie Smith's Academy Award winning role in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie from 1969. The Beard's choice is the Glenn Ford vehicle Blackboard Jungle from 1955. Hope you like it!

#3 Wilderness/Ticks

Hello and thanks once again for listening. The Bird is back and she has proposed a forest themed episode. We start with bad kids and the hunter and his team of hungry mutts that are pursuing them in Wilderness from 2006. I chose a 90s VHS classic! Wayward teens go on a forest retreat and are attacked by blood hungry, mutant creatures in Ticks from 1993. The Beard still sounds like I'm recording in a tunnel but fear not. I have the problem fixed for the next one. Have a great day, folks!

#1 Shiner (2000)/Next of Kin (1989)

This is the inaugural episode of The Bird and the Beard! The Bird (Emily Wood) and The Beard (Gary Hill) are glad to welcome you as we throw films at each other from our different regions with hilarious results! First up, we discuss two films chosen completely by accident because they have the same director but totally different films. The Bird chose the Michael Caine vehicle in which he goes from old perv to raving lunatic in Shiner from 2000. The Beard chose the Patrick Swayze/Liam Neeson backwoods justice film Next of Kin from 1989. Hope you guys like it!
